Ty Dodge is the owner of the 120-year old Remington painting, a family heirloom, which depicts Dodge's great-grandfather, army officer Lea Febiger. Febiger was a friend of Remington, famous for his paintings and sculptures of the 19th Century American West.
Dodge brought the painting to be appraised at the Antiques Roadshow in Birmingham, Alabama, and was stunned to find out the painting was worth $800,000.
Dodge has donated the painting to the Birmingham Museum of Art to include in its collection of Remington Bronzes.
